Agreement between India and Morocco
Cabinet of India approved the agreement between India and Morocco on Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters.
This agreement will pave the way to a broad legal framework for bilateral cooperation between India and Morocco, particularly in:
- investigation and prosecution of crime,
- tracing, restraint, forfeiture or confiscation or proceeds and instruments of crime.
It aims to increase effectiveness in investigation and prosecution of crime.It will provide the necessary peaceful ambience which is an early requirement for the development of society as a whole.
The agreement will be instrumental in gaining better inputs and insights in the modus operandi of organized criminals and terrorists, which in turn can be used to fine-tune policy decisions in the field of Internal Security.
Jharsuguda Airport, Odisha renamed to Veer Surendra Sai Airport, Jharsuguda
The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has approved renaming of Jharsuguda Airport, Odisha as “Veer Surendra Sai Airport, Jharsuguda”
Benefits:
- Veer Surendra Sai is a well-known freedom fighter of Odisha.
- It was a long pending demand by the Odisha government to rename the Jharsuguda airport in the name of Veer Surendra Sai.
- This renaming also reflects the sentiments of the local public of the respective area. Its befitting tribute to the contribution of the great & one of the most revered personality associated with the State.
MoU between India and Korea
Cabinet approves MoU between India and Korea for strengthening cooperation in the field of Tourism.
The main objectives of the Memorandum of Understanding are:
- To increase Exchange of information and data related to tourism
- To expand bilateral cooperation in tourism sector
- To encouraging cooperation between tourism stakeholders including Hotels and Tour Operators
- To encourage Investment in the Tourism and Hospitality sectors
- To establish exchange programmes for cooperation in Human Resources Development
- To exchange visits of Tour Operators / Media / Opinion Makers for promotion of two-way tourism
- Promoting safe, honorable and sustainable tourism.
- To exchange experience in the areas of promotion, marketing destination development and management &
- To encourage participation in travel fairs/exhibitions in each other’s country
Korea is one of the leading tourist generating markets for India from East Asia. Signing of the MoU with Korea will be instrumental in increasing arrival from this source market.

World Cities Day aims:
- to promote the international community’s interest in global urbanization,
- enhance cooperation among countries and cities in meeting opportunities and addressing challenges of urbanization, and
- contribute to sustainable urban development.
Cities need support to become resilient and develop their capacity to absorb the impact of hazards, protect and preserve human life and limit damage to and destruction of public and private assets while continuing to provide infrastructure and services after a crisis.

Companies Amendment (Ordinance), 2018
President gives assent to promulgation of the Companies Amendment (Ordinance), 2018
The recommendation of the Union Cabinet for promulgation of the Companies Amendment (Ordinance), 2018 has been assented to by the President of India.
It is based on the recommendations of the Committee appointed by the Government to review offences under the Companies Act, 2013.
The twin objectives of the Ordinance are promotion of Ease of Doing Business along with better corporate compliance.
India and Japan signs a Loan Agreement
India and Japan signs a Loan Agreement worth Rs. 1817 crore for the ‘Project for the Construction of Turga Pumped Storage (I)’contributing to the Industrial Development and Living Standard Improvement in the State of West Bengal.
Objective:
The objective of the Project is to strengthen the capability to respond to fluctuation in supply and demand of power and to improve stability of the power supply by constructing the pumped storage facilities, thereby contributing to the Industrial Development and Living Standard Improvement in the State of West Bengal.
India and Japan have had a long and fruitful history of bilateral development cooperation since 1958.

India was partner country at Videocittà 2018, an event focussing on Virtual Reality, Video gaming, Animation, Film Making, etc. was organized along with Rome Film Festival and Mercato Internazionale dell’Audiovisivo (MIA) (the International Audio Visual Market).
India’s participation at Videocittà 2018, Rome was organized by Ministry of Information & Broadcasting and coordinated on Ministry’s behalf by FICCI.
What is Ganga Gram?
It is a concept to transform banks on the village of River Ganga into:
- Ideal villages with emphasis on ODF (open defecation free),
- Water Conservation,
- Solid and Liquid Waste Management
- Modern crematorium,
- Ground Water Recharge,
- Tree plantation, organic and
- Medicinal plant agriculture being the main components.
After making all 4465 Ganga Bank villages ODF (open defecation free), the Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation is working in this direction.
In this regard, Uma Bharati stressed upon public participation as the key to make Ganga Bank villages ideal Ganga Grams.
Prime Minister meets First Lady of the Republic of Korea
First Lady Kim is visiting India at the invitation of Prime Minister Modi.
She will be the Chief Guest at the Deepotsav event being organized by the State Government of Uttar Pradesh and the ground-breaking ceremony of the new Memorial of Queen Suriratna (Heo Hwang-ok) in Ayodhya on 6 November 2018.
Ayodhya and Korea have a deep historical connection through the legendary Princess Suriratna of Ayodhya, who traveled to Korea in 48 CE and married Korean King Suro.
South Korea is officially called as Republic of Korea.
What is the link between India & South Korea
Ayodhya known as birth place of Lord Ram holds special significance for some South Koreans as many believe they can trace their ancestry to the city.

From some historical Korean stories, which tell the story of an Indian princess – Suriratna – who married a South Korean king and started a dynasty.
Popular legends in South Korea says that Princess Suriratna, also known as Heo Hwang-ok, went to Korea in 48 AD, some 2000 years ago, and started the Karak dynasty by marrying a local king.
Kim is a common surname in Korea and King Kim Suro is considered to be the father of the Kim clan which is based in Gimhae.

Also An agreement was signed between the two countries (India & republic of South Korea) to develop Ayodhya and Gimhae as sister cities in 2000.
Queen Hwang-ok’s memorial was unveiled by the historians and government representatives, including the North Korean ambassador to India on the west bank of the River Saryu in Ayodhya in the year 2001.
People of South Korea (officially:Republic of Korea ) who claim to be from the queen’s lineage come to Ayodhya to pay tribute to the princess at her motherland.
In 2016, a Korean delegation sent a proposal to the Uttar Pradesh government to further develop the memorial.
First lady will attend a ceremony spanning 4th to 7th November, 2018 that marks a start on the upgrade of the monument of the Queen Hwang-ok or Princess Suriratna.
It is a joint project between South Korea and India.
