World Standards Day

To celebrate World Standards Day 2018, Bureau of Indian Standards has organized seminar on ‘International Standards and the Fourth Industrial Revolution’. It was inaugurated by Union Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Shri Ram Vilas Paswan.

Each year, (International Organization for Standardization) ISO decides a theme of the World Standards Day based on a current aspects of standardization.  The theme of this year “International Standards and Industrial Revolution 4.0”

World Standards Day, is an international day of observance recognized world over since 1970. 

This annual event is celebrated across the globe jointly with the International Electro-technical (IEC), the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).

This occasion provides a perfect opportunity to reflect how Standards work in the real world, and the benefits they bring to business, society and the environment.

About ISO

–> The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) is an international standard-setting body composed of representatives from various national standards organizations.
–> It was founded on 23 February 1947.
–> It is headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland.

What is Bureau of Indian Standards

The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) is the national Standards Body of India working under the umbrella of Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution, Government of India.

Earlier it was  Indian Standards Institution (ISI).


Swadesh Darshan Scheme

  • Launched by Union tourism ministry.
  • To develop theme based tourist circuits in the country.
  • Tourist circuits to be developed on the principles of high tourist value, competitiveness and sustainability in an integrated manner.
  • 13 thematic circuits have been identified for development.
  • 100% centrally funded scheme.
  • Funding of projects under this scheme varies from state to state.
  • First Tribal Circuit Project under Swadesh Darshan Scheme inaugurated in Chhattisgarh.
  • Two important projects under Swadesh Darshan Scheme of Ministry of Tourism, Government of India were inaugurated at PTSO Lake in Tawang, Arunachal Pradesh.

Aadi Mahotsav

Aadi Mahotsav” a National Tribal Festival is being organized in New Delhi by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs and TRIFED.

It is organized to celebrate, cherish and promote the spirit of tribal craft, culture, cuisine and commerce.

Theme of the festival is: “A Celebration of the Spirit of Tribal Culture, Craft, Cuisine and Commerce”.


NMCG brainstorms on G-governance of Namami Gange programme

National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) organized a brainstorming session on World GIS Day 2018 in New Delhi, with the theme ‘G-Governance of Namami Gange programme through Geospatial Technology’.

Geographical Information System (GIS) technology is widely used in river basin management.

NMCG (National Mission for Clean Ganga) has signed an MoU with National Remote Sensing Centre (NRSC) in the  use of Geospatial technology.

Together they have developed Bhuvan Ganga Geoportal and Bhuvan Ganga Mobile Application. The application is available for download from the Bhuvan Ganga web portal as well as Google Play store. Its focus is on the “Clean Ganga” Mission of Ministry of Water Resources.

About  Bhuvan Ganga Mobile Application and web portal

Centre launched Bhuvan Ganga mobile application.

Uma Bharti, Union Water Resources Minister launched Bhuvan Ganga Mobile Application and web portal.

A MoU has been signed between the National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) and the National Remote Sensing Centre (NRSC), ISRO in this regard.

It was done to effectively plan and monitor the Centre’s flagship Clean Ganga Mission.

Here people can upload pictures of pollution sources of the Ganga river.

Concerned authorities will take further action depending on the situation.

The first version of the app is available for download in the Bhuvan Ganga web portal.

What is Bhuvan

Bhuvan is a web mapping service which allows users to explore a 2D/3D representation of the surface of the Earth. Developed by ISRO(Indian Space Research Organization).

It provides information on soil, wasteland and water resources on the Indian subcontinent.

SIMBEX 18

  • It is an acronym for Singapore-India Maritime Bilateral Exercise.
  • This was the 25th edition of SIMBEX starting from 21st November 2018, which will take place in Andaman Sea and Bay of Bengal.
  • This exercise is between Indian Navy & The Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN).
  • The previous edition of the exercise was held off Singapore in the South China Sea in May 2017.
  • This is the perfect complement of India’s ‘Act-East’ policy
  • The 2018 edition marks the Silver Jubilee of SIMBEX.

Swachh Bharat Mission celebrated World Toilet Day

Swachh Bharat Mission (Grameen) celebrated the World Toilet Day.
The focus is on usage of toilets.
The objective is to engage with communities and reaffirm the national resolve to a sustain the Sanitation achievement.

  • It is an official United Nations international observance day
  • Celebrated for inspiring action to tackle the global sanitation crisis.
  • It was established by the World Toilet Organization in 2001.
  • UN General Assembly declared World Toilet Day an official UN day in 2013.
  • Theme for 2018: Nature based solutions (slogan: When Nature Calls).
  • Theme for 2017: Wastewater

National Integration Day

National Integration Day (Quami Ekta Divas) is observed on 19th November every year all over India.

National Integration Day is celebrated as the birth anniversary of the first woman Prime Minister of the India, Indira Gandhi.

National Integration Day is celebrated to enhance the love and unity among people all across the India.

Qaumi Ekta Week

Qaumi Ekta Week (National Integration Week) observed all over the country, from 19th to 25th November, 2018.

Qaumi Ekta Week celebrated to reinforce the spirit of Communal Harmony, National Integration and pride in vibrant, composite culture and nationhood.

National Foundation for Communal Harmony (NFCH), an autonomous organisation with the Ministry of Home Affairs, organises Communal Harmony Campaign.

It coincided with the Qaumi Ekta Week and observes the Communal Harmony Flag Day on 25th November.

It also provides financial assistance for relief and rehabilitation of children rendered orphan or destitute in communal, caste, ethnic or terrorist violence.


INDRA 2018

  •  It is a joint military exercise between India and Russia.
  • Aimed on combating insurgency under the aegis of United Nations (UN), started on 18th Nov,2018.
  • The joint exercise is being conducted at Babina Field Firing Ranges, Babina Military Station in Uttar Pradesh.  (Babina is a cantonment town in Jhansi district in the state of Uttar Pradesh, India.)
  • This is the tenth exercise in the series of Exercise INDRA .
  • The primary focus of the tactical field exercise will be to share best practices amongst the militaries and work on the existing skills of the troops to equip them to deal with exigencies at hand.
  • The exercise has been held regularly since 2003.
