Rashtriya Mahila Kisan Diwas
Rashtriya Mahila Kisan Diwas observed every year on 15th October
Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Ministry had decided to observe this day as Rashtriya Mahila Kisan Diwas in October 2016. Aim of this day is to increase the active participation of women in agriculture sector.
This decision is inspired by the celebration of October 15 as International Women’s Day by the United Nations Organization (UNO).
Museum on Prime Ministers of India
A “Museum on Prime Ministers of India” is to be set up in Delhi.
Union Minister for Culture Dr. Mahesh and Minister for Housing and Urban AffairsShri Hardeep Singh Puri laid the Foundation stone for proposed Museumat Teen Murti Estate, in New Delhi.
The Teen Murti Estate – is under the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs of the Government of India.
Already, Nehru Memorial Museum Building & Library Building is present there.
The museum would be a single institution where the visitors can learn about the Prime Minister’s Office, its evolution, role & centrality to governance at the Union level, and also about the individual Prime Ministers.
Kalam Vision – Dare to Dream
Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO) on the eve of Dr. APJ Kalam’s 87th birth anniversary launched a website.
Website is dedicated to the theme ‘The Kalam Vision – Dare to Dream’ for engaging young minds in emerging technologies namely Artificial intelligence, Cyber security, Robotics, Automonous Systems, etc.

Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam also called as ‘missile man’.
Hindi version of the book “Incredible Kalam” was released by RRM Dr Bhamre in today’s function so that message of Dr Kalam can reach to the masses of the country.
The book is the compilation of personal experiences of some distinguished scientists about their association with Kalam.
Air Quality Early Warning System
Air Quality Early Warning System for Delhi was launched in Delhi today by the Union Minister for Earth Sciences and Environment, Dr. Harsh Vardhan .
The System is designed to predict extreme air pollution events and give alerts to take necessary steps as per Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) of the Government of India.
World Food Day
The theme of World Food Day 2018 is ‘Our actions are our future – A zero hunger world by 2030 is possible’.
World Food Day is a day of action dedicated to tackling global hunger.
Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) is under Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare.
Indian Farming, a monthly magazine of the ICAR, is dedicating a special issue on the theme of World Food Day 2018.
Pradhan Mantri Kisan Sampada Yojana, a national level programme, was launched to create world-class food processing infrastructure. This is expected to leverage investment of five billion US dollars, benefit two million farmers and generate more than half a million jobs over the next two years.
What is Pradhan Mantri Kisan Sampada Yojana
It is a new Central Sector Scheme approved by Government of India (GOI). The scheme will be implemented by Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI).
It will be able to create modern infrastructure with efficient supply chain management from farm gate to retail outlet.
It will :
- double farmers income,
- create employment opportunities in rural areas,
- reducing wastage of agricultural produce,
- increasing the processing level and
- Enhancing the export of the processed foods.
The following schemes will be implemented under PM Kisan SAMPADA Yojana :
- Infrastructure for Agro-processing Clusters
- Integrated Cold Chain and Value Addition Infrastructure
- Creation/ Expansion of Food Processing/ Preservation Capacities (Unit Scheme)
- Mega Food Parks
- Creation of Backward and Forward Linkages
- Human Resources and Institutions
- Food Safety and Quality Assurance Infrastructure
Goa Maritime Symposium – 2018
It is the second edition of the Goa Maritime Symposium (GSM) – a forum towards fostering friendly relations with the maritime neighbors.
It was inaugurated by the Chief of Naval Staff, Admiral Sunil Lanba, at INS Mandovi at Goa on 16th October 2018. The “Naval War College Journal”, an academic compendium with ideas and papers from writers and thinkers on maritime strategy and security, was also released on the occasion. Theme of the seminar, this year was “Building Stronger Maritime Partnerships in IOR”.
It was attended by delegates from many countries such as Bangladesh, Myanmar, Mauritius, Sri-Lanka, Singapore, Thailand etc.
Goa Maritime Symposium was conceptualised and first held in Nov 2016.
6th India International Silk Fair Inaugurated
Smriti Zubin Irani (Union Minister of Textiles), inaugurated the 6th India International Silk Fair (IISF) at Pragati Maidan in New Delhi on Oct 16th 2018.
Ambassador of Vietnam to India, Pham Sanh Chau was present on the occasion.
India is the 2nd largest producer of silk after China and is emerging as a leading exporter.
12th Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM)
Vice President Shri M. Venkaiah Naidu left for Belgium to attend 12th Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) Summit in Brussels.
The 51 nations’ summit is seen as the highest platform for dialogue and cooperation between Asia and Europe.
The theme of the ASEM Summit is ‘Global Partners for Global Challenges’. ASEM Summit is a bi-annual event.
Previous ASEM Summit held in July 2016, Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.
OneerTM
Council of Scientific and Industrial Research ,Indian Institute of Toxicology Research (CSIR-IITR), Lucknow has developed an innovative technology for “Drinking Water Disinfection System” with Trade name “OneerTM”
It was transferred to M/s Bluebird Water Purifiers, New Delhi in the presence of Union Minister of Science & Technology and Vice-President, CSIR, Dr. Harsh Vardhan.
It is useful for continuous treatment of water.
OneerTM, eliminates all disease causing pathogens such as fungi, bacteria, virus, protozoa and cyst to provide safe drinking water to domestic and communities settings as per National and International standards prescribed for potable water (BIS, WHO etc.).
According to the World Health Organization, “access to safe drinking-water is essential to health, a basic human right and a component of effective policy for health protection”.
4th annual Carnot Prize
Kleinman Center for Energy Policy at the University of Pennsylvania awards 4th annual Carnot Prize to Union Minister Shri Piyush Goyal.
What is Carnot Prize
The Carnot Prize is the Kleinman Center’s annual recognition of distinguished contributions to energy policy through scholarship or practice.
It is the most prestigious award in the energy sector.named after French physicist Nicolas Sadi Carnot who recognised that the power of the steam engine would “produce a great revolution” in human development.
Previous winners include: Dr. Daniel Yergin, Vice chairman of IHS, Dr. Fatih Birol, Director of International Energy Agency, Gina McCarthy is a career public servant in fields of energy and environment.
The 2018 Carnot Prize is a recognition of India’s efforts under Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, as the nation charts the path towards eliminating energy poverty with sustainable energy solutions.
Energy efficiency has become a people’s movement in India, making the Government’s UJALA scheme the world’s largest LED distribution programme.
With private sector participation, 130 crore LED bulbs have been distributed under the UJALA scheme, to make India brighter and cleaner.
The Carnot Prize is recognition of India’s climate conscious and development driven energy governance that is fuelling the aspirations of crores of people.
PM to dedicate to the nation the National Police Memorial
The National Police Memorial (NPM) was dedicated to the nation by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi in recognition of the supreme sacrifice made by police personnel since independence.
From 2018, October 21 is observed as the Police Commemoration Day every year in memory of the policemen killed at Hot Springs in Ladakh by Chinese troops on this date in 1959.
This Police Memorial represents all State/UT Police Forces and Central Police Organizations of the country.
The central sculpture of the NPM is a 30 feet monolith made of a single piece of granite, weighing 238 tonnes.
A 60 foot long river at the base of the sculpture reflects the continuous self-service of the policeman and woman, to maintain peace and public order.
What is a communicable disease
Disease that spreads from one person to another through a variety of ways is called as communicable disease.
Breathing in an airborne virus, contact with blood and bodily fluids, being bitten by an insect are some of the ways these disease spreads.
Other names of communicable disease are Infectious disease, or transmissible disease.

Non-communicable disease (NCD) are the leading cause of death globally.
Risk factors such as a person’s background, lifestyle and environment increase the likelihood of certain NCDs.
